I don't understand the logic behind your diatribe against IPL. Just because there are elections happening, which was announced SUBSEQUENTLY to IPL schedule announcement, why should IPL be stopped, as long as it does NOT clash with election dates & does not prevent people from exercising their franchise?

In the name of democracy, do you want to advise the Govt. to act in an autocratic manner by denying visas to foreigners to prevent them from playing in IPL? IT MAY BE GOOD FOR YOUR KIND OF DEMOCRACY but that is not what was envisaged in a Real Democracy.

It is due to the FEAR OF UPA GOVT. & ITS ALLIES WHO ARE RULING SOME STATES (LIKE TN) ABOUT IPL & ITS POPULARITY, which is making the GoI to go out of its way to scuttle the tournament UNDER THE PRETEXT OF "UNABLE TO PROVIDE SECURITY". Its a pity even some educated people are getting fooled by this "democratic duty" ploy of the UPA politicians.

BTB, what is wrong in IPL being conducted in a business like fashion & players are being bought & sold in auctions? Mind you, they are all willingly agreeing to be bought & sold & NOT against their wishes. Even IT industry in India is famous for its "manpower" export, famously called "Time & Material" contracts, which is fetching GoI billions & billions of foreign currency even today. In both cases - players & software coders - their skills are being bought & sold, right? So, whats wrong or demeaning in doing that business, as long as it is legal & not immoral? I am surprised a person like you, who eulogises the virtues of doing business & being business-like at every available opportunity is unable to appreciate IPL for what it is - a business first & a sport next.

wherein I have published a post on this matter.

It is important to avoid anything that might distract from the important matter of elections, which is a matter of constitutional importance.

It is surprising that IPL had not factored the question of elections before finalizing its dates. There just cannot be any quaestion of priority in terms of who announced the dates first. IPL should have anticipated this.

It is now nice that th venue is being shifted outside India.

I know you will stop watching "sob serials" in TV in order NOt to get distracted from constitutional matter of election.

I am looking forward to a day when the Govt. disrupts power in Nanganallur area for an entire day. That day happens to be a critical day for Mr. Dondu Ragavan as he has to meet a deadline for his foreign client but could not do so. To rub salt into his wounds, the same day, ruling DMK conducts a election meeting with lots of lights (of course thru unauthosied connection only for the meeting) & fanfare. Let us then see whether you say the same dialogue as above.

I can only see prejudice - prejudice against IPL's huge monetary success - than anything else in this post.

All was fine until recently.

It all started when Sharat Pawar expressed his aspiration to become Prime Minister. This angered Congress-I. Home ministry is led by PC, a Congress Min. Sharat Pawar is the BCCI president. Further, the IT dept conducted an audit recently and forced BCCI to pay Rs 91 crore as tax.

The congress govt want to needle him by withdrawing security to IPL.

Can you see the connection now?

It is once again proved that wherever politician enters, he'll ruin it perfectly.

In my opinion, election is more/most important. At the same time, I don't believe that IPL cannot be held due to election. IPL schedule us squeezed within international fixtures of several countries.

Now, Pawar is cocking a snook at Congress by shifting IPL to either England or S.Africa.

I do not require full police protection for watching a sob serial I suppose.

In such cases, I will just inform the foreign client of the matter and get the deadline extended or if the assignment is really a matter of life and death, will move over to another area's browsing cafe and continue the translation, after having emailed to myself the requisite files.

As for the election meetings with the general area under shutdown, the scenario is not likely as this will create a lot of ill will for the ruling party and no party worth its salt shall do so. what is more, election meeting is not the same as elections.

Citing the same security reasons, Aussie tennis federation wants to move the Davis Cup event on may 8-10 out of india. It is supposed to have happenned in chennai. What do you say to this ? Sir,

another important point that i wish to bring to your notice is :

BCCI (and ipl) is just a private society registered under societies act in madras. it is similar to a apartment owners association,etc.. - a manamagizh manram :), thats it.

India does not have a national sports body / team for the sport of cricket.

BCCI is a private club, that has got recognition from ICC. ICC has a set of rules,if they are followed, even, a team like royapuram rockers can apply for membership.

so, there is no responsibility for govt to provide police security.
infact, punjab poilice department has realised this and have sent notice for about 5 crores or so as bill for providing security, to Punjab cricket board, but have not received the amount

I request you to kindly take these issues up(for ex, mandating chennai police dept via rti to get bill for all security provided hitherto, mandating indian sports department to constitute a national cricket board and team)

With respects,
venkat
